Arapahoe County Fire Departments are the following 6: Aurora Fire, Cunningham Fire Protection, Littleton Fire Protection District, Parker Fire Protection District, South Metro Fire Rescue, and West Metro Fire Protection District.

Cunningham Fire Protection (CFPD) was formed on September 1, 1950 as a Volunteer Fire Department by a group of group of civic minded charter members. CFPD serves over 46,000 residents covering 14 square miles with the following services: Fire, EMS , Hazardous Materials, and Public Assistance responses. Fifty five men and women formed the Cunningham Fire Protection staff. Rescues are capable of providing advanced life support treatment and transportation. Engines are capable of providing basic life support medical attention. In 2000, CFPD responded to approximately 3500 calls for assistance.

Littleton Fire Protection District provides the following services to more than 200,000 people residing in an 80 square mile area: : fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue response, dive rescue and recovery, as well as wildland fire suppression. Code review and revision, plan review, code enforcement, and fire/arson investigations are managed by the Fire Prevention Division. As the “first responder on fire and medical emergencies” the Communications Center provides assistance and information to citizens, both to emergency 911 calls and to routine fire request calls. This includes assistance with CPR and rescue breathing instructions over the phone.
